The Meadowood Loop Trail
The Meadowood Trail offers a fascinating glimpse into Napa Valley's ecosystem. A quick hike demonstrates the rugged natural beauty of Meadowood and offers panoramic views into Napa Valley showcasing the vineyards, downtown St. Helena and well-known wineries.
Hiking at Meadowood is an activity that guests of varying fitness levels may enjoy. The Meadowood Health Spa and horticulture teams recently expanded the hiking trail to 4.5 miles. Affectionately called "The Meadowood Loop", the trail wanders through the mountains that encircle the property. Along the way, hikers may see Northern California wildlife, birdwatch – over 106 species of birds have been identified at Meadowood – and meditate at various benches created just for that purpose.
Meadowood is located in Northern California's Coastal Range and the hiking trails and meditative spiral have been created using indigenous plant life materials. Meadowood's landscape consists of various terrains, microclimates and plant communities, including oak woodland, riparian forest, and chaparral, which support a wide variety of birds and animals.
Native plant species include the Big Leaf maple, Black California Walnut, California Lilac, California Poppy, Chamise, Douglas Fir, Madrone, Sticky Monkey Flower, Sword Fern and many more. Additionally, the property is accented by non-native plants, which are used for color and their ability to thrive in California's Mediterranean climate. These consist of Jasmine, Laurel, Magnolia, Olive and Camellias to name but a few.
